FBLA End of Year Summary

Jim Thorpe Area School District has three Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapters,Jim Thorpe Area High School, LB Morris Middle School, and Penn Kidder Campus Middle School.

Throughout this past school year, the summer months prior, and the summer months upcoming, all chapters have been working diligently.

Most recently, Jim Thorpe FBLA had a whitewater rafting trip on Wednesday, June 12, to which anyone was welcome to attend. However, all students who participated in FBLA here in Jim Thorpe had many other opportunities and resources to learn about various aspects of business and industry accessible to them this year.

To celebrate the end of a very eventful and momentous year for Jim Thorpe’s three FBLA chapters, advisors and officers hosted the first annual End-of-the-Year Banquet at the high school on Tuesday, May 21.

The banquet commenced with a potluck dinner for all attendees, members and members’ family and friends.

Following dinner and dessert, the guests moved to the auditorium, and the ceremony began with the FBLA Pledge, as all FBLA meetings are supposed to.

Then, the various officers had their parades. These officers for the high school chapter were President Harmony Berk, Vice President Amaya Heffelfinger, Secretary Adriana Day, Treasurer Grace Ossowski, Historian Jonathan Duffy, Reporter Maura Malaska, Parliamentarian Mikayla Andreas, and Community Service & Fundraising Coordinator Cassidy Pychinka.

For the LB Morris Middle School chapter, paraded were President Alena Mehnert, Vice President Caden Davis, Secretary Layla Searfoss, Treasurer Madison Baksalary, and Historian Dravyn Pysher.

Lastly was the Penn Kidder Campus Middle School parade of officers. Their officers were President Ella Ramey, Vice President Colin Warren, Secretary Matylda Burzynski, Treasurer Gaetano Sarnelli, and Historian Dannica Dalessio.

Next on the agenda was the roll call, during which the secretaries shared attendance; the emblem ceremony, which described the meaning of FBLA’s emblem; and the Keynote Speech, which was made by Mauch Chunk Trust Company.

Following the introductory procedures, the show moved on to the main event of the night, the award ceremony. The awards began with announcements of the chapter awards the high school received at the State Leadership Conference in Hershey this past April.

These awards were 7th place in Largest Local Chapter Membership, out of 227 chapters in Pennsylvania; 4th place in Local Market Share, 4th place in Most Community Service Hours in the Big 33 Community Service Club, William H. Seldon Outstanding Chapter Criteria, and Hollis and Kitty Guy Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit.

The award ceremony then announced the competitive events of each high school member. These are included below, with a special mention for those who placed in the top six of their category at the Regional Leadership Conference at Palmerton High School, in January, qualifying them to compete at the State Leadership Conference.
