Senior Spotlight: Justin Yescavage

Justin Yescavage is the 2025 class president along with Jim Thorpe’s Varsity football captain. He is the wide receiver for our football team and has been for the past four years.

Justin is also a member of Jim Thorpe’s Varsity track and field team. His main event is the 110 hurdles.

Which School Tradition are you most proud of?

I would say it’s either spirit week or the volleyball tournament. I really like the different themes during spirit week like biker vs. surfer and all of that. I also like the competition of the volleyball tournament and think its a great tradition.

What is your most memorable school sport memory?

Definitely when we beat Lehighton last year for the 209 trophy and got to hold it up at home. We hope to do it again this year.

Favorite school memory?

Has to be the pie eating contest with Noah Rosahac and Adam Kosciolek narrating Mr. Morgan's victory. `

Favorite teacher?

Mr. Getz, obviously, he’s a fantastic teacher. Mr. Morgans is also a great teacher. Mr. Pascoe is a fantastic teacher as well.

Plans for after high school?

I want to play football in college, ideally.

Which subject do you think prepares you most for life after high school? Why?

I would say physics with Mr. Conrad because he bases his class off of how his college classes were and how his professors taught.

Favorite subject?

Science, marine biology with Mr. Pascoe is the best class I’ve ever taken.

What about high school challenged you the most?

Honestly? Honors Algebra 2 as a freshman.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I’ll be 27.. I hope to settle down and have a well sustaining job with a wife and kids and a house, hopefully. That would be nice.

What motivates you?

Probably, wanting to succeed and not wanting to fail. I feel if you fail you don’t really know where you’ll be but if you succeed you have more control on where you’ll be and end up in in life.

Advice for freshman/other high school students?

Don’t act out and ruin your whole four years because you want to get noticed as a freshman, just don’t do anything stupid.

How have your hobbies/ extra curricular activities influenced your future plans?

Fishing, hiking, disk golfing are probably my favorite hobbies.

What will you miss most about high school?

Probably the traditions, I mean even roshambo and the pie eating contest and volleyball tournament, stuff like that. Even the pep rallies when we get to boo the freshman.

What are you most proud of accomplishing in high school?

Class President probably, I think it’s a pretty big deal. And we’re doing pretty well there. We raised a good amount of money for prom.

How is your experience as Class President?

As Class President, we’ve definitely faced some difficulties. Especially because we only had one class advisor for a while and we’ve been trying to get people involved and bring new people in. But we’ve raised a good amount of money and have been trying to mix it up.

We’ve been trying to not just sell chocolate every week just to get money. We’ve been doing activities like the Halloween bash and the breakfast and we did the roshambo.

We’ve been trying to keep doing fun things like that. I’ve also got to work with some great people.

The Halloween bash is also coming up soon, so seniors please volunteer. It’s Saturday, October 26th from 5-9pm. Costumes mandatory.

Who have been the biggest influences in your life during high school? Why?

I want to say David Foritio, just based off the fact that he kind of led me into the social part of highschool. He taught me that once you start worrying about the social part of highschool everything else goes downhill. He just helped me notice that the social part doesn’t matter and that what you do in highschool won’t actually matter after high school unless you do something dumb that could affect the rest of your life.

What are you most looking forward to after graduation?

Probably sleeping in on a random Tuesday morning and not having to worry about an alarm. But I’m also looking forward to seeing what life has to offer outside of high school and what that experience will be life.

How was the experience of being our star football player and captain?

It’s a bit of a rough experience right now, we’re going through some rough times, but it’s awesome when things are clicking and the ball is in the air and we’re scoring touchdowns, we’re winning, and the band is playing, that’s awesome.

The student section has also been getting bigger and I love it, but we’ve definitely been struggling a little bit and we want to pull it together here in the upcoming weeks for sure.

Advice for juniors about senior year?

If you have your heart set on playing a sport, make sure you’re talking to colleges if you want to play in college and make sure you’re talking to them about it.

If not, and if you don’t want to pursue college, try and figure out for the most part what you want to do because you don’t want to bounce around and say you want to go to college, waste money, waste time, and then end up saying “this isn’t for me,” which could happen, obviously.

But if you want to pursue something in the work force, try to get your feet wet and do that early.
