Seniors in the Spotlight

There are few that put in more work than those in the theater department. Under Dr. Christ, those who were sophomores when the program came back have put in their due diligence and more to bring an exciting future their senior year.

Over the course of the last school year as juniors, these students helped to make the play A Christmas Carol and musical The Addams Family the fantastic productions they were.

The spring musical proved to be a true show of talent, with a diversely magnetic leading cast. Each melted into the roles of their characters seamlessly, and appeared to have a fantastic time doing so.

But this wasn't an easy process to get the final result of.

Many of these students not only work hard within club hours, but have gave more of their free-time to join other related clubs as well.

Devin Vasquez, Jonathan Duffy, Kyle George, and many others have now joined the choir program to further channel their skills in the arts.

With how seamlessly many of these students fit through band, choir, and theater it's clear that these upcoming seniors have truly taken a great deal from Dr. Christ.

Vasquez, who played Gomez Addams in the show, said “I have intense ADHD..I was told I would never succeed if I didn’t go on disability. But I didn’t, I channeled that into my passions. I went into reading and writing, and now I’m on stage and I never thought I would be.”

Many other students in theater can relate to Vasquez, and this program coming back after the pandemic was a highlight of their highschool experience.

Through personal struggles in every imaginable light, theater has given passion to these students.

In such an isolating era, this shared experience has led the group to become a very tightly knit community.

With the majority of the program being upcoming seniors, in both stage crew and cast, the class of 2025 will leave a permanent mark on Jim Thorpe’s theater club. But, their legacy is not finished yet.

In the 2024-2025 winter season the department will be producing a ‘cabaret’ performance; students enrolled in both choir and theater can choose two songs to personally choreograph, then perform, in the show.

As the opener for the year, the winter show will be light-hearted, as a way to show the starting point for the members this year.

Peter and the star catcher will be the spring musical, a twist on the story of Peter Pan. This is expected to be a fun show, but as with any musical, will put the cast and crew to some serious work to make the production as great as it will be.

We have time to go, but this is sure to be a worthy send off to these incredible seniors that have kept the program running.
