Varsity Football Starts Strong

After a summer of training, offense now coached by Mr. Cameron, the hard work of this team was celebrated at Meet the Olympians on Wednesday, August 21st.

The event went on from 7pm through the night, with a show by the cheerleaders throughout.

Cole Lazorick notably debuted his fresh buzz cut to the crowd as the varsity team came up for their introductions.

Turn out was great and truly got pep high for the first game of the season on this past Friday, the 24th.

Kickoff was at 7pm and the Red Swarm was certainly hard to miss against Palmerston's black-out.

The game started rusty for Jim Thorpe, and were down 7-6 by the end of the first quarter.

Throughout the second quarter Jim Thorpe made a strong comeback, leaving Palmerton unable to score whatsoever while Jim Thorpe went up by 12, then leading into halftime at 18-7.

The halftime show was put on by Palmerton's marching band, a highlight being their rendition of the famous Micheal Jackson halftime performance.

The third quarter had wins for both teams, starting with a rushing touchdown by Palmerton pushing the score to 18-13, still with Jim Thorpe in the lead.

They then completed a two point pass, bringing it to 18-15.

Jim Thorpe turned the tables back when Lazorick (quarterback) completed a 35 yard pass to Aaron Curren (wide receiver) for a touchdown, and with a point made after the score at time was 25-15.

Lazorick then opened the forth quarter with a pass to Justin Yescavage (wide receiver), resulting in another touchdown, then another point was made upping their lead to 32-15.

Lazorick then made a 5 yard rushing touchdown, and another point was made, leaving the final score at 39-15 Jim Thorpe.

With an attendance of at least 1,000 combined, it was no surprise the canteen was packed all night. Seniors volunteering their time included Jonathan Duffy, Daniella Hernandez-Sosa, Bowden Ross Chicarelli, and several others.

The best way to not only make sure the canteen functions well for everyone, but to ensure that prom in spring is the best it can be, is to sign up to help out.

Check your email as sign up forms are released and let's keep the turnout as strong for the next homegame on Friday the 7th.
